Chocolate Banana Avocado Smoothie Recipe

Mmmm….chocolate.

Don’t let the fact that this recipe has avocado in the title scare you out of trying it!

I love avocados and I love chocolate but it is hard to imagine anything tasty coming out of those two foods combined.

This recipe will change your mind, I swear!  I have slightly adapted the original recipe from Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain cookbook to include additional options of fruit and spinach and slight ingredient variations.  My kids LOVE this, and two of them actually despise avocado and would not have even tried it if they knew it had spinach in it!  The avocado adds a creamy texture to the smoothie and the medjool dates add just the right amount of sweetness!

Chocolate Banana Avocado Smoothie

Serves 1

 Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces almond or coconut milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of almond butter
  • 3-4 pitted medjool dates
  • 1/2 of an avocado
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder or raw cacao
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon organic flax meal & chia seeds
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries or strawberries (optional)
  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach (optional)

Instructions:

Thaw frozen banana for 10 minutes before using.  Add all ingredients to blender in recipe order. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds or until fully blended.
